I bought this DVD the day it came out and loved it instantly. But I didn’t really have anything to say about it until watching the ending of another astronomical anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Both the TV and movie versions of that series angered me to no demolish, but they made me realize how enormous “Endless Waltz” is.

The ending of the “Gundam Hover” television series wasn’t really that at all. Determined, the ‘bad guys’ were defeated, but anyone who thinks that’s all that matters isn’t a fan of fine storytelling. “Endless Waltz” answers elegant mighty every inquire of you might have about the fates of the characters, and I don’t mean fair the Gundam pilots, either. Every considerable character of the series is brought into play, and even some not-so distinguished ones. As icing on the cake, this DVD also answers many(though not all) questions about the characters from before the inaugurate of the series.

The animation, characterization, and qualified soundtrack (“White Reflexion!”) all fabricate up for the fact that the set is slightly funny and a itsy-bitsy cliched. More of a terrible guys versus trustworthy guys thing as opposed to the complexity of the series. But hey, it’s a movie, how deep do you want them to find, here?

Two more reccomendations. Discover the movie version, as opposed to the OVA version. You’ll be jubilant you did. It contains extended and all-new footage that really makes the myth straggle better, plus there’s some tremendous music in obvious scenes that were mute in the OVA vesion. Secondly, and this is something I never ever say about anime, eye it dubbed. No, I’m not insane. It’s actually better, I sing to God. I’ve seen it in both languages, and simple lines (such as many of Heero’s) impartial sounded better delivered in English.

…but what an ending! Told mostly through flashbacks, the account of Endless Waltz is rock-solid. If you’re a fan of the series, this explains the characters backgrounds and how they came to be, which is quite spirited (Trowa’s origin, for example, was not only sharp, it’s unpleasant) . If you’re current to Gundam Fly, well… it wouldn’t be the best position to open… and at the same time, it would be if you don’t want to sit through all those episodes (which is why I liked the flashbacks: I can exhibit it to my friends and they wouldn’t be left out in the icy as to what’s going on in the film) . Whenever you try to secure someone’s interest in a series, it’s not always easy: nobody really has time to sit through a whole space of tapes/DVDs, and that’s if you even have them; and when you try to note them a movie inspired from the series, they know nothing of the characters, and it seems that most movies quiz that you already do (bewitch, for example, Tenchi Forever: you can’t indicate that to a first-time Tenchi viewer, as it wouldn’t quite register [i.e., no explanation as to how the characters came about]) . But, like I said, Endless Waltz gives you a whole background of the characters through the flashbacks, yet, doesn’t retract away from those that have followed the series–no easy feet. So what’s the fable here? Taking off a year after the Gundam Sail series ended, Mariemeia–the illegitimate daughter of deceased war leader, OZ chief Treize Krushrenada–has made plans to become the ruler of the unique nation–thus taking over Earth and the Spot Colonies. Obviously, this isn’t good; it’s, as the movie said, “An endless waltz of peace, war, and revolution.” And obviously, our heroes aren’t taking this lightly, either. Past villians are now safe guys, the characters are more emotional than ever, and the battle scenes are the best in the entire Gundam Waft series–in fact, I honestly felt this was the peak of everything to the series: the characters have more depth, the sage is at its finest, and the battle scenes are beyond astonishing. If you’ve seen any of the episodes, you already know about dubbing: it’s perfect. Very few anime titles I’ll say I actually loved the dubbing, but the whole Gundam Hover series is fair huge. The animation is a bit dated (it was made quite awhile wait on), but the detail is peaceful fascinating. I’ll be just… the first time I seen Gundam Waft, I didn’t care for it–I’m a Macross/Robotech fan, and I’ll always fell that Macross/Robotech is king when it comes to mecha in anime… but I started liking it after awhile, and I truly feel that this movie represents all of Gundam Fly at its finest. Endless Waltz is a huge, action-packed, anime movie that, hopefully, will score the success it truly deserves–definitely do not pass this up when its release day comes.

If, like me, you catch most Hollywood “treasure” stories about as warm and romantic as a chilly sleepless night in Seattle, then you’re in for a surprise. Not since Casablanca have I enjoyed a care for epic as remarkable, and though they both destroy at the airport, the similarity ends there. This one is about marriage, family, and the connections and sacrifices that beget marriage, parenthood and yes, care for, worthwhile.

Nicolas Cage plays a harried but driven Wall Street executive playboy who wakes one day to catch himself trapped in a life he never wanted, married to the woman he abandoned years ago. It’s a living nightmare at first, but the harder he tries to hasten it, the more he begins to perceive that there are values and rewards that he somehow missed in his previous executive penthouse lifestyle. By the waste of the movie, he’s learned a lesson he will never forget.

An unexplainable fantasy in the tradition of “Groundhog Day”, you soon acquire yourself accepting the unexplainable, even as the protagonist himself realizes there is no easy flee from his unique reality, and learns to work within it’s framework. After all, life throws all of us some unexpected “curves”, and like the protagonist in this original day Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Suburban Bowling League, we can become better people by accepting and embracing the crazy things life puts us through in the name of adore. Chalk one up for traditional family values in a feel-good movie with a message, served up without the sappy cliches.

Put the kids to bed early (The Family Man deals with some adult issues, and remarkable as I enjoyed it, it would need a diminutive editing before I would think it a family film!), and honest the two of you survey this one together with a bowl of popcorn and a glass of wine – you’ll be gratified you did!

In the tradition of the best films that Hollywood ever had to offer comes this refreshingly unbiased movie that isn’t jumpy to say that you don’t have to be rich, hip and cynical to be successful and blissful with your life. “The Family Man,” directed by Brett Ratner, stars Nicolas Cage as Jack Campbell, a man who took the “road less traveled,” and turned his serve on cherish for a career on Wall Street, and thirteen years later calm doesn’t realize how empty and shallow his life has become. Then something happens; on Christmas Eve, Jack does a kindly turn to the just person at the proper time. His name is Cash (Don Cheadle), and he unprejudiced happens to be a guy with, well, connections. And the next thing Jack knows, he’s getting a “watch” of what his life would have been had he made a different choice all those many years ago. When he wakes up on Christmas morning, he’s not in his bed in his penthouse apartment, but in a house in the suburbs, sleeping next to Kate Reynolds (Tea Leoni), the woman he once loved, but abandoned. Wall Street is history; he’s now a crackerjack tire salesman at “Spacious Ed’s,” and he and Kate have two kids, Annie (Makenzie Vega) and Josh (Jake and Ryan Milkovich) .

Needless to say, Jack is confused; and the enigmatic Cash isn’t about to let him in on what’s going on– that’s for Jack to figure out on his fill. So Jack has no choice but to go on living his life– even if it’s not really “his” life. And it becomes a drag of discovery; not only for Jack, but for the audience, as well. And what follows may be fantasy, but it’s fantasy with a message, from some filmmakers who aren’t shy to deliver it like it is, and they do it well.

What director Roth presents you with is an examination of what life is really all about, and what– in the final analysis– is really famous. And do no mistake, this isn’t a film that aims for the head, it aims for the heart, scores a bullseye and doesn’t apologize for it. Is it pure, honest, realistic, riveting drama? Of course not, and it never pretends to be. What it is, is a film that stays suitable to what it’s all about and says some things that need to be said in this fast-food, cybersaturated world of the here and now. It’s a poignant, well made and well acted film that appeals to the universal sensibilities that in one arrangement or another reside within even the most jaded, modernized and “Original Passe” individuals. Because it’s an entreaty to the most basic of human needs and concerns.

Cage was the perfect choice to play Jack; he’s got a natural, sympathetic watch that makes him easy to like, and combined with the emotional aspect he brings to the character it makes Jack someone to whom it is so easy to report. it’s a performance that allows you to feel something; and that’s really what this movie is all about, capturing that sense of humanity that is so often lacking in people’s lives today. Cage makes it work, and he makes it work beautifully, because he lets you portion Jack’s frustration, his loss, his fears and, most importantly, the hope and the care for he ultimately realizes has been missing in his life. It’s a engrossing role that Cage not only met, but surpassed with unprejudiced the kind of exacting performance that was needed to save this record across.

Tea Leoni gives an ample performance, as well, as Kate. It’s a sensitive, sympathetic portrayal that serves the character and the epic with broad effectiveness. Leoni makes something special out of a character that could’ve been unbiased the “female lead,” with the purpose of being nothing more than the means of spicy the narrative of Jack’s self-discovery along. Instead, she makes it her tale as great as his by making Kate an endearing, truly integral section of the film, and she fairly sparkles on the shroud.

The supporting cast includes Jeremy Piven (Arnie), Saul Rubinek (Alan), Josef Sommer (Peter), Lisa Thornhill (Evelyn), Harve Presnell (Great Ed), Mary Beth Injure (Adelle) and Francine York (Lorraine) . There’s no doubt that personal experience and frame of reference is going to play a expansive share in the blueprint “The Family Man” is received by the audience. But Ratner, Cage, Leoni and everyone else connected with this project are to be commended for making an unprejudiced, heart-felt film with an valuable message about life in today’s world. It’s a film that says success isn’t fair being the guy at the top of the heap, that it’s okay to honest “be” whomever or whatever you are, as long as it’s what makes you pleased and convey. It’s a intrepid statement for a filmmaker to design today, and we can only hope that more artists will have the guts to build more movies like this in the future.

You might request “Dunston Checks In” to be a kiddy or cutesy present, and in a scheme it is, but it can also be a ample family movie for anybody who likes comedies. A manager of a 5-star hotel in Recent York, Mr. Grant (Jason Alexander), has a tall job, but he has to spy every step he takes because if he makes one mistake in the eyes of the owner, Mrs. Dubrow (Faye Dunaway), he could lose his high paying job and go from living in a 5-star hotel to something not so nice. Mr. Grant has two kids to raise, but things fair might go haywire when an orangutan starts hanging out at the hotel.

But not to fret, not only is the orangutan named Dunston exact luminous, he can also effect simple things hilarious. “Dunston Checks In” isn’t a groundbreaking comedy and it’s not that unique, but it is fun to perceive, and it can be silly. I recommend anybody who likes comedies that feature an animal as the main star to at least rent “Dunston Checks In,” if not buying it.

Ah, the simple pleasures in life. Monkey movies are getting to be few and far between, with the poor ones overtaking the friendly. (Did anyone ogle Ed with Matt LeBlanc, yeah, i didn’t contemplate so) All those that feel that the genre of monkey movies is almost stupid should watch the sparkling Dunston Checks In. This film has it all: a monkey that wreaks havoc in a swanky hotel, and Jason Alexander really overacting. Jason, lighten up bud! you are in a monkey movie! The valid pleasure comes in bright that this film was an attempt to breath life into the monkey movie genre, a field that has been over looked by the Oscars for numerous years. The only quandary with this film is that it is far too short. When will filmakers realize that monkey films should be epics, not 90 limited comedies. Give me an chronicle monkey movie over the same customary Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy garbage anyday. Dunston, i deem i assure for everyone when i say: I adore you!

Includes the legendary spirited film The Pied Piper of Hamelin

Revered as one of the world’s most considerable figures in animation, Czech filmmaker Jiri Barta has made a career fashioning stunningly gothic worlds of scare and fantasy that are infused with sublime humor and intense factual examinations. Mixing the magnificent traditions of such artists as Gaudi, Kafka, Poe, Fritz Lang, The Brothers Quay and Jan Svankmajer, Barta’s films are wondrous creations that go far beyond mere children’s tales.

His early paper cut-out extravaganzas-Disc Jockey (1980) and The Gain (1981) -give blueprint to the object ballet of A Ballad about Green Wood (1983), in which logs celebrate the eternal renaissance of spring. Former mannequins use their cracked and broken lives In the Club of the Laid Off (1989), and myriad styles of handwear spring to life as a brief history of international cinema in the award-winning The Vanished World of Gloves (1982) . Barta’s international reputation was cemented with The Pied Piper of Hamelin (1985), a very un-Disney adaptation of the classic German fairytale in which carved wooden puppets in a gothic cubist town are plagued by live rats. Considered one of the greatest works of puppet animation, it recalls the sunless medieval epics of Ingmar Bergman. His only live action film, The Last Theft (1987), is a jewel thief/vampire flick shot in the style of 1970s European exploitation cinema.

Working mostly from the prestigious animation studio founded by the legendary Jiri Trnka, Barta’s works have been criminally overlooked in the U.S. Kimstim is proud to indicate all eight of Jiri Barta’s films, available for the first time together on one DVD.

Critical Acclaim

“Unbelievable… Barta creates a gothic never-was world caught somewhere between Gaudí and Kafka, Caligari and Svankmajer.”- TIME OUT

What it is that makes Czech animators so intellectual? There was Jiri Trnka, support in the day, Jan Svankmajer redefining the medium, and now Jiri Barta. This collection simply must be on the shelves of anyone who truly enjoys discontinuance animation.

The eight pieces presented range from six minutes to 55. All of them are clever and well done, even if ‘The Last Theft’ and ‘Disc Jockey’ aren’t really finish animation. The two longest pieces deserve the most attention, however. I had seen ‘The Club of the Laid Off’ before. It presents a crumbling warehouse where unwanted mannikins are sent to be forgotten, but consume lives of their contain. The forced cheer painted onto their immobile faces amid decay, their acquire included, cast a creepy spell over the whole twenty-five minutes, as did their deliberate and incorrect humanity – they were, after all, created to point to human clothes. Even their anatomically-innacurate nudity reinforced their pathetic poverty. Their ineffectual tries at normalcy objective displayed a poverty of soul, too, opening the inquire of which creations deserve to have souls.

The best by far was the “Pied Piper of Hamelin.” At nearly an hour, this sustained misfortune in stop-animation is an achievement in sheer endurance if nothing else – at 25 or 30 hand-crafted frames per second, an hour is a long time. But it offers more than that. The Pied Piper state looms darker than any other I’ve seen. Without being “adult” in any method, this is certainly not one for the kiddies. But, even if the plotting and characterization didn’t meet the highest standards already, the crafting of puppets and sets would smooth accomplish this one of the best on characterize. The puppets might discover equally at home as gargoyles on a medieval cathedral, as demons from a seventeenth century woodcut, or as wood-carving in a tradition of craftmanship that calm exists in recent Germany. If anything, the sets surpass the puppets in evoking a European city of the 1600s, and composed carry a rubbery surreality that positions this town firmly in dreamland. I don’t know what’s usually considered the best in cessation animation, but if it’s not this, then someone had better have very fine evidence to abet up their claim.

To commence this review, allow me to first advance tidy with the fact that I’m a bit partial toward any and all mecha (robotic-based) anime titles. Some may panic that my view is thus disagreeable by this biased devotion but in truth I can attest to the fact that the opposite is the case. My adoration for mecha shows actually forces me to become overly important in my opinions as after all, high expectations are always more difficult to meet.

That said Valiant Age is one of the grandest, most spectacular anime titles available today, mecha or otherwise. But before I dive into the wonder of the exhibit itself, let’s start with the physical attributes of this Funimation release.

Though labeled The Complete Series, do be aware that this state is in fact the first fraction (episodes 1-13) of a 26-episode point to, the second half of which is scheduled to street in July. The 13 episodes contained here span 2 discs that arrive packaged in a pair of thin packs housed in a cardboard slipcase. Total runtime comes in at 315 minutes and extras are cramped to textless songs and a carve of novel Funimation-title trailers on the second disc.

The display wears a slightly conservative TV PG rating and this is most certainly derived out of violent themes such as war on a huge scale. There is so nudity, base language, graphic violence or gore to narrate.

Language options are standard sub & dub variety: English dub in 5.1 Dolby Surround and modern Japanese dialog in stereo. English subtitles are available in either sound setting.

Now onto the nuts and bolts that invent Brave Age a diamond in the rough… The epic begins innocently enough with a young savage boy called Age living alone among the ruins of a planet with a ample squid-like creature native to the land acting as his only companion and source of nourishment (not to distress, like an earthen Starfish, it has the ability to regenerate body parts) .

A human-owned vessel known as the Argonaut, after spending years searching the known galaxy, descends upon the planet ruins in the hopes of finally locating the chosen one, a human boy who possesses the power of a nearly passe tribe of alien warriors.

What’s astronomical is that Valiant Age does a spectacular job of melding fantasy elements such as a cryptic prophecy, former tribal warfare, and mysticism with futuristic situation exploring science fiction. The material presented within achieves what American film franchises Star Wars and Star Slump dabble in but never fully protest.

In the region the majority of humanity scoffs at the concept of an uneducated, savage child being the one to shriek their vastly technological species from annihilation but Age proves he’s more than meets the witness when dispatching wonderful numbers of insect-like alien invaders known as the Bronze Tribe. When called upon, Age has the ability to morph into his just form; that of a massive biological killing machine with shark-like features named Bellcross.

It turns out that Age is objective one of five that remain of his entire species and though the remaining four thought humanity as a scourge to the universe, it is Age’s destiny to fight for our hopeless cause.

The scope of the prose can best be described as tribal warfare on a galactic scale with feeble governing races (the Gold Tribe) setting up the framework for conflict that spans an entire galaxy. Human beings (referred to here as the Iron Tribe) are locked in unending spot combat with everything from icy-cold humanoids (the Silver Tribe) to aforementioned metallic grub worms and their shielded mobile “ant hills”.

Heroic Age combines intense action sequences with a rich, scientifically sound place about as effortlessly as any series your author has yet to encounter. Pacing is fair spectacular with episodes that always seem to effect too expeditiously only to retract up in the next installment without missing a beat.

A word of wisdom; do pay special attention to the tale told in the opening sequence of the reveal as it is invaluable in making sense of the fable struggles being forged in the galaxy (that is otherwise not fully touched upon in the display itself) . This is especially crucial in the first three episodes as the beginning sequence starts out looking similar but actually goes on to elaborate many different elements of the attend story/ history of the events taking dwelling.

The show’s artwork is one of few that can truly boast of requiring the technological benefits of computer imaging to conclude. Many of the dwelling battles in particular are unbiased pretty to notice with an unrivaled sense of depth and scope portrayed. Fair a few short years ago these sequences would have been lavish enough to have been afforded only by Hollywood huge budget feature films. All too often shows with such pleasing visuals (mediate Blue Submarine No. 6) raze up coming up short in the epic department but this is simply not the case in Valorous Age. Clearly this is a fable that was developed first and foremost with fine audiovisual work being the icing on the proverbial cake.

The animation production is done by XEBEC, a studio known for its work on another beloved mecha series, Fafner and while the two shows bare some little superficial resemblance, the bar was certainly raised in developing Bold Age.

My one and only compliant of this release is quite simple- that I’m forced to wait a few months before the concluding sequel space is released. The explain ends abruptly and on such a cliffhanger that the temptation to sneak episode viewings online is a certain factor. This is account storytelling, flawlessly delivered with obliging animation and crisp visuals to match. Even the English dub deserves praise for its spot-on emotional delivery and intensity. Fans of psychological mecha (Evangelion and Rahxephon), action-based mecha (Fafner, Vandread, Aquarion), and objective about anyone who appreciates solid storytelling best not miss Brave Age: Truly a masterwork of unusual anime that cannot be contained within the restrictions placed upon it by genre.

This is one capable anime, once i started it i couldn’t finish,I highly recommend this to anyone who loves anime. The yarn itself is complex with many races of people in the universe, a prefer few are given the the power of the nodos along with contracts each has to fulfill, long record short it’s a enormous site odyssey with kickass fight scenes between very powerfull mecha, give this series a chance and you will not regret it. There, Kamal encounters contaminated racism, all the more insidious because it is covert. F. Murray Abraham plays a teacher who is very similar to the character, Salieri, whom Abraham portrayed in the film “Amadeus”. A failed writer who became a teacher, Abraham oozes racism as he contrives to waste Kamal whom he accuses of plagirism, as he clearly believes him to be honest another inner city, gloomy basketball player who is incapable of anything more. He cannot seem to fathom that this kid could possibly write as well as he does, because he has Kamal stereotyped.

Yet, Kamal is actually all that he puports to be, a gifted writer who honest also happens to play basketball. Truly scholarly, he shows up his teacher in class, only to further exacerbate his emnity. This teacher’s detest and covert racism manifests itself in the exclusion of Kamal’s entry in the prestigious writing competition sponsored by the prep school. The rise to stardom and pop princess has been a mercurial one for a young Tennessee girl who goes by the name of Miley Cyrus. For Miley, it appears as though stardom was born and bred within the teen sensation since within her mother’s womb. With the “one hit wonder” Billy Ray Cyrus as her father and the fact that one of country music’s most distinguished voices and faces, Dolly Parton, is her godmother, is it any wonder that the girl knows a bit about music? As though having an incredibly promising and talented jabber isn’t enough, Miley Cyrus also displays an exceptional talent for writing and acting, which is delightfully apparent in her recordings, her sitcom Hannah Montana, and her full-length movie, Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Through all of of this and the speedy rise of fame, it amazingly appears as though Miley is a fairly well-rounded individual who has, thus far, managed to speed that out-of-control phase that several young teen idols have gone through these past few years. As a parent, this is a rather reassuring thing, radiant how easily young girls are affected by what they peruse and hear and how worthy they want to imitate those they idolize.

In this unauthorized narrative, The World According to Miley Cyrus, Miley is compared to a young Judy Garland. Though incredibly high praise, this unbiased doesn’t seem to ring suitable to me and seems a bit of an curious comparison. However, there is also mention of the similarities between Miley, on her sitcom Hannah Montana, and Lucille Ball. This seems, to me, an apt comparison. I had never conception of these two as similar until it was mentioned in this video. They do allotment a exquisite comedic talent that reaches out to grab the viewers and reveal some similar characteristics in their physical comedy.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The World According to Miley Cyrus! Click Here

This unauthorized DVD takes the fans and viewers into the world of Miley Cyrus. It tells of her ups (her hit TV series Hannah Montana) and her downs (her controversial record in Vanity Handsome), her romances, and the average, everyday fun she loves to partake in. This is a girl who openly admits to having the best of both worlds and realizing she has been blessed.

Also, throughout the video are clips of interviews with fellow Hannah Montana cast members, family, and friends. Through this film, the viewer is given a feeling for who Miley really is. She is incredibly talented in her ability to write, obtain, and act and seems as though she truly can carry out whatever she puts her heart, soul, mind, and hard work into.

I also possess that Miley is a immense role model for young girls today. She seems to have virtues and truly cares about her fans and being a worthy influence. Yes, she’s growing up and may earn choices that all parents may not agree with, but she is only human, does beget mistakes, and will learn from them unbiased as we all do.

As the mother of a seven-year-old daughter who has enjoyed Miley’s alter ego Hannah Montana for a couple of years now, we both enjoyed this DVD. It was fun, keen, and showed that there is a staunch person leisurely all of those flashbulbs and glaring lights.

In addition to Miley’s sage, the DVD includes bonus snippets of peeks into the lives of singer-songwriter Chris Brown, actress Dakota Fanning, and the beloved Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical fame.

This video does have a blooming thorough telling of Miley’s memoir, but the video quality was astoundingly, oh, there’s so many ways to say it, but I’ll honest go with Dreadful. It looked like it was filmed with a cheap camera recording a broadcast on an extinct T.V. The audio, except for the narrator, sounded like it had been given a heavy dose of auto-tune. I also took exception to some of the editorial statments such as “Dolly Parton’s blond bimbo image”. Voluptious, sexy, yes. Blond bimbo, no. If you impartial have to have everything Miley, salvage this, but don’t bother watching it. Oh, I watched the HM movie immediately after this and the audio and video were shapely, so it’s not my equipment, unfortuantely. Cheap video, aloof not worth the brand IMHO.

This is a Hamlet that’s easy on the eyes and the mind…if you don’t have the time and stamina for Branagh’s 4 hour version, and can’t rep bear of Olivier’s elegant 1948 film, this is the one for you! Mel Gibson is grand as Hamlet. He gives him humor and a masculine vigor, and the beneficial supporting cast is reliable. I especially like Alan Bates..his lusty, murderous king is fantastic…and mention should be made of Nathaniel Parker’s amazing Laertes. David Watkin’s cinematography is comely, Ennio Morricone’s accept subtle and shapely, and the production one of Zeffirelli’s best. This is very delectable Shakespeare, even for those who normally don’t like him, and I highly recommend this to parents who would like to introduce their teenagers to the Bard. Don’t miss this stunning movie!

Once again, I’d like to give a half-star rating, but alas . . .

As my by-line indicates, I am a extinct high school teacher. Without exception, this is the version of Hamlet that is a class-room common. (I demonstrate 2 others: Branaugh (2nd position) and the film starring Ethan Hawke (everyone hates it) .) It is accessible to younger viewers and is impartial a handsome film all around.

The filming, camera work and sets are impeccable. One is instantly transported into the world these characters inhabit. As to the script, it IS heavily edited; however, most of what is omitted (observe brand below) is “shown” to the audience through visual media. This isn’t a “filmed version of the play”; it is a film based on the play. In that framework, it is quite well done. I particularly like the beginning scenes that effect Hamlet’s description of his mother – “Like Niobe, all tears” – arrive to life.

The acting, to my thinking, is salubrious. The emphasis here is on Hamlet’s relationship to his mother, Gertrude. That comes through quite clearly. Gibson’s Hamlet comes across as a soldier – a man of action – who agonizes over the eternal consequences of his acts. He is believable in the role, masterful in some ways. Likewise the supporting cast. Helena Bonham-Carter and Glenn End provide particularly vibrant portrayals of their characters.

So, why not 5 stars? Without the “Fortinbras” subplot, some of the urgency in the play seems missing. While definitely a secondary story-line, it provides a framework that adds tension to the play as a whole as the war is waged both outside the castle walls and within.

Overall, this production gets an A. Very accessible. Very easily understood. And haunting in its hold plan.

To be unbiased, I kind of plan the movie was going to be terrible (I didn’t like the book), but I went to contemplate it anyway, since I learned that Jane Campion was the director. Having seen and loved her “Angel at my Table,” “The Piano,” and “Holy Smoke,” I was alive to in finding out why exactly this independent Unique Zealand director left Australia and went, so to issue, “Hollywood.” Well, it turns out that Campion was only doing a favor for Nicole Kidman, who was going to play the lead role (Nic decided against it later on, and became one of the executive producers instead) .

The film itself is aesthetic to sight at, although the camera work is a bit shaky, and there are like… hundreds of meaningless close-ups that can drive you totally crazy. And guess what, Meg Ryan DOES bewitch her top off (if you’re fervent in that sort of thing) . But this movie is also very violent and brutal; I heard it almost got an NC-17 rating (our censors gash out a seven-minute chunk of footage with most frightful sex and violence and rated the film R) .

Basically, the myth is about a somewhat sparkling English teacher named Franny (played by Ryan), who suddenly finds herself in the middle of a police investigation when a girl is found murdered approach her house. The lead detective working on the case meets and talks to her, and she’s instantly attracted. Then, to beget things even more complicated (as if the sexually unruly relationship between her and the police officer wasn’t enough), Franny remembers that she saw the expressionless girl somewhere before.

The account is quite captivating, though the ending is fairly simple and predictable. I’d recommend this movie to anyone who loves “romantic thrillers,” but don’t seek information from distinguished from it. The acting is safe (especially Ryan’s), the cinematography is gorgeous, the music is honorable, and the set won’t gain you wanna yawn, and that’s the primary thing.

“In The Slit” is an adaptation of Susanna Moore’s trustworthy modern of the same title, published in 1995. Director Jane Campion has departed significantly from the recent in several places, especially with the ending, but has managed to prefer distinguished of the book’s eroticism, dusky edginess, and palpable suspense.

Frannie Avery, superbly acted by Meg Ryan, is an resplendent 35 year-old divorcee who lives in a two room apartment on Washington Square. She teaches creative writing at NYU to a group of inner-city teens. She is also a connoisseur and scholar of language and is writing a book on street slang and its derivatives. Frannie takes chances. She is a sexual risk taker. However, she lives in her possess private world where she spends an fantastic amount of time pondering the nature of language, which leaves her vulnerable to her surroundings…and reality. Frannie is not at all street savvy. And her nearsightedness allows her to disengage even more from the potentially unsafe world in which she lives. One slack afternoon, in a neighborhood bar, she makes a slither to the ladies room and inadvertently walks-in on a couple engaged in an intimate act. The man’s face is obscured by shadow but she does recognize that he has a current tattoo on the inside of his wrist. A few days later a NYC homicide detective, James E. Malloy (Effect Ruffalo), seeks Frannie out for an interview. There has been a brutal kill in the neighborhood. The victim is the woman Frannie saw performing the sex act in the bar. The evening Frannie saw her was her last.

Malloy takes risks also. He totally defies all rules about relationships between a detective and potential discover and acts on the astronomical sexual attraction between Frannie and himself. Malloy epitomizes the “tough guy with a badge,” his frank blunt language adding to Frannie’s turn-on. From the first, however, she knew that Malloy had a tattoo on his wrist – a tattoo she had seen once before.

Jennifer Jason Leigh plays Pauline, Frannie’s spacey, obsessive half-sister and the person Frannie is closest to and loves. She lives above a topless bar in downtown Manhattan and the affection both women feel for the erotic dancers, the entire ambiance of the club and its proximity to their lives, reestablishes the sense of careless oblivion to pain. Together the two ponder the ups and downs of being female, discuss sexuality and romance and their father’s many foibles.

Kevin Bacon is Frannie’s off-the-wall ex-boyfriend who stalks her and maintains a threatening presence throughout. And Sharrieff Pugh is good as one of Frannie’s brightest students who is fixated upon John Wayne Gacy.

Jane Campion, an astounding director, has not given us a typical mystery thriller about a vicious serial killer. “In The Prick” is more an exploration of the sexuality and inner life of an sparkling, creative, emotionally starved women approaching middle age. Detective Mallory’s aggressive masculinity and the threat of the physical grief which surrounds her jar Frannie awake. The films portrays an urban environment of muted violence objective waiting to explode and the colors and sounds of Campion’s Modern York add to the building tension. There are some superbly staged sequences which give a hallucinatory, almost nightmarish quality to the scenes. The intense and fair performances really compensate for the movie’s flaws. I found myself totally absorbed. Recommended – but be warned, this is not a movie for the sqeamish or faint of heart!
