…and if that quote didn’t inform you the unique immense budget spacious camouflage “Land of the Lost” film isn’t exactly directed at the Saturday morning TV crowd… I fondly engage spending those mornings in the 70’s with Will, Holly, Dr. Marshall and the Sleestak, so when I heard Will Ferrell would be taking the lead I was whisper in the knowledge that the campiness of the new Sid and Marty Kroft prove would be preserved. As fate would have it this preservation extends even to the cheesy theme song which Ferrell nearly performs in one scene…this theme song magnificent mighty covers the series and movie’s premise…the aforementioned characters, on a “less than” routine expedition via an earthquake and a tachyon gadget (this fragment is novel) extinguish up in a parallel plot they call the “Land of the Lost” complete with prehistoric critters and lizardmen. Unlike the series they need to gain Dr. Marshall’s misplaced gadget in order to net home, this leads to lots of mishaps and contemplate gags. But as I mentioned, this is not your father’s “Land of the Lost” this is a Will Ferrell, albeit watered down, but nonetheless, a Will Ferrell film, so as you’d request there is overt extreme references flying aplenty, including hot Sleestak-on-Sleestak action (not really on cloak), nothing to cringe-worthy…although some drug and vague sexual jokes.
“LOTL” is bookended by a “TODAY” prove sequence in which Matt himself interviews Dr. Marshall about is kooky space/time theories and then again later interviews a vindicated Dr. Marshall at the movie’s slay. Dr. Marshall is classic Will Ferrell, the pompous, dimwitted boob he plays soooo well, so you know precisely what you will regain upon entering the theater. This time he is a nutty paleontologist who has a weird fixation on “Chorus Line” and comfort food binges. “Land of the Lost” is more “Elf” than “Anchorman”, I guess. What is current here is the digital dino and large bug see candy, not really the norm for a Ferrell film, more in the spirit of Ringo Starr’s “Caveman” than “Jurassic Park” though (especially the cave-boy-speak) .

The kitsch aside, if possible, “LOTL” includes some impressive sets, some proper to the current indicate, like the Sleestak ruins and some less Kroft, but equally chilly, parallel world Bermuda Triangle parallel world clutter ala desert complete with missing ships, planes and gas stations. Also moral to the Kroft eye are the Sleestak lizard people (one of which is voiced by Leonard Nimoy a.k.a Spock) who sight largely unchanged, but I’d have bought a stamp fair for them anyway.
I went into this film not expecting a whole lot. But because of curiosity from watching it growing up and the fact that my kids wanted to seek it I ended up being glad with my 1.5 hours spent. The scenes that bookend the movie with Matt Lauer were the best, but I also enjoyed Ferrell’s constant harrassment of Cha-ka. The drug section could have been obsolete for something that was actually comic. Danny McBride had some comical moments that were over the head of my kids (thank goodness) mostly with Anna Friel who played it straight through the whole movie and was there to provide some `eye candy’ for the slack teens and older crowd. CGI effects were pleasurable and the Sleestacks were titanic! Not a lot of laugh out loud moments for me (except the bookends) but worth a rental on a weekend night and some popcorn. PG-13 for a reason- you know your hold kids, go with your beget judgment.

“Round up the usual suspects.” And so they do – and ending up in the lineup are career criminals Michael McManus, Fred Fenster and Todd Hockney (Stephen Baldwin, Benicio del Toro and Kevin Pollack), ex-cop gone unpleasant gone generous again Dean Keaton (Gabriel Byrne) and small-time con man Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey) .

Wait a exiguous … five criminals in one lineup? There’s something ghastly here, good? Correct …
In “The Usual Suspects,” not only every line but every gesture, every facial expression and every camera chop counts. Even if you distrust the memoir being told, you can’t exactly pin down everything that’s outrageous with it. The position unfolds through the epic extracted from Kint, one of two survivors of a massacre and subsequent explosion on a boat docked in San Pedro Harbor, by U.S. Customs agent David Kujan (Chazz Palminteri) . And at the same time as Kint is spinning his myth, in a nearby hospital the other survivor (badly injured and current out of a coma) helps a police sketch artist plan a recount of the mastermind slow the map – “the devil,” Keyser Söze.

You can contemplate this movie countless times, and you will mild watch unique subtleties every single time. Not only will you glean that it calm makes sense after the legend line has been unraveled at the ruin (which therefore is a dwelling twist, not a non-sequitur) . You’ll also peruse nuance upon nuance in Kevin Spacey’s improbable performance. You’ll study that shrimp apologetic grin on Todd Hockney’s face as attorney Kobayashi (Pete Postlethwaite) lists a weapons truck heist – the very act which brought them together in the initial lineup, and which they have all approach to acquire to have been a trumped-up charge – as Hockney’s latest sin against Keyser Söze, now forming fragment of the debt to be repaid by participating in the suicide mission in San Pedro Harbor. And at some point you’ll also have figured out all of Fenster’s lines (not being a native English speaker, I am relieved to win that I wasn’t the only one struggling with them at first) … although the mumbling is of course fraction of his character, and is as excellently delivered as every other aspect of Benicio del Toro’s acting, his lines are so amusing and to the point you almost wish he’d insist more clearly so you wouldn’t miss half his punch lines the first time around.
Among a cast of gigantic actors (to name unprejudiced two, Gabriel Byrne in one of his best performances and Benicio del Toro, deserving distinguished more than fair an “also starring” mentioning in the opening credits), Kevin Spacey’s star shines brightest. To this day it is a mystery to me how he came to be awarded the Academy Award for Best *Supporting* Actor – the only things the man supports (in fact carries, almost single-handedly) in this movie are Bryan Singer’s directing and Christopher McQuarrie’s screenplay, and that alone makes him the movie’s lead character. But regardless of its title, the award was more than justified, and so was the one for McQuarrie’s screenplay. With infinite trust in the audience’s ability to occupy up on small gestures, looks and inflections of his grunt, Kevin Spacey displays all the many aspects of his character at the same time; and even the tenth time around, his performance calm holds as lawful as the first time you contemplate the movie. Almost plain he tells his sage, always seeming to give away impartial about as powerful as he has to, and only raising his drawl for a pointed (and exquisitely timed) expletive upon first being confronted with the name Keyser Söze, and for a wailing “Why me?? ” as agent Kujan tries to convince him that his maintain archenemy, Keaton, has been tedious their failed enterprise all along and purposely let him (Kint) live to shriek their myth.
This is one of those movies which have you quote their many memorable one-liners forever. (Objective peer at how many reviewers on this position alone are quoting the one about “the devil’s greatest trick.”) To the extent that it cites other works, those citations pay homage, they don’t merely copy – factual down to the name of the movie’s production company (Blue Parrot/Bad Hat) ; like the title containing a reference to “Casablanca,” the prototype of all films noir (or those made in Hollywood at least) . It is one of the best fresh examples of the genre and has long since become a cult classic – it’s a must in every decent collection.

Sometimes a movie really surprises you, really blows you away for some reason. I saw “The Usual Suspects” not really expecting anything enthralling. Well, I was execrable. The residence? Following a bloody shoot-out aboard a ship moored at a Santa Monica pier, the police quiz a hood by the name of Verbal Kint in an attempt to learn about what happened. We scrutinize several different possibilities and the final respond we net is a valid surprise.
Typically movies rely upon special effects, left-field site twists, and brand-name casting to secure the job done. “The Usual Suspects” relies on an wonderful script, noble direction and incredible acting from people who might not necessarily be household names. Gape at this cast- Stephen Baldwin, Kevin Pollack, Benicio Del Toro, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, Chazz Palminteri, Dan Hedaya, and Pete Postlethwaite. This is some serious acting talent to perceive. They all are mammoth, but in particular Gabriel Byrne (Dean Keaton) and Kevin Spacey (Verbal Kint) mumble exceptional performances. Neither man is quite who they seem to be. Spacey won a well-deserved Oscar for his performance in this film.
Director Brian Singer does a shiny job coaxing terrific acting performances from his cast. This was a tought movie to obtain and he pulled it off in spades.

This is a classic, don’t come by me disagreeable. I absoultly fancy this DVD and purchased it without even thinking twice… However I reflect it could have been 2 or even 3 times as long. At impartial over an hour it feels a bit rushed.
Also you should be made aware that there is an abundant almost unending supply of adult language in this movie.

I won’t go into the fable too worthy because that’s half the fun. I will say that this anime has some of my popular anime action scenes in it and I tumble in care for with it every time I do it in the DVD player. I wrong it up there with Akira, Ghost in the shell, Iria and Robotech…
Oh and there is a hidden trailer for appleseed on the dvd version. Go to special features fragment. at the bottom you’ll peruse it lists “play movie” “Menu” and to the true will be the MAGNA symbol. proceed to the accurate and highlignt the symbol. press enter and devour the “music video/trailer” for Appleseed. It’s ravishing cold.
I’ll confess that I am a Shirow fan and I’ve enjoyed reading Appleseed. I was looking forward to the anime, but I was a bit disappointed by it. This anime is based on Appleseed: Book 2, but to condense that lengthy volume into a one hour movie, some sacrifices had to be made.
One of the major things which suffered in the conversion was the characterization. The same familiar characters of Deunan, Briarios, and Hitomi are collected there, but they are very watered-down when compared to the rich characters they were in the manga. They have very exiguous character depth or personality in the anime.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Appleseed! Click Here
The entire storyline is also somewhat different. While the overall status is the same, the complexities are toned-down. It essentially follows a typical “police versus terrorist” storyline, with a shrimp political intrigue from the manga thrown in. For those who secure Shirow’s works confusing, then this may be a blessing, but for those who bask in the rich depth of his stories, then this will be a bitter disappointment.
The animation is of pleasing average quality. The characters behold the same as the manga, but it’s generally not too flashy. While I haven’t seen the dubbed version, I heard that excessive swearing was added in. The subtitled version has almost no profanity in it.
Appleseed does have some entertainment value. If you’ve never read the manga before then you’ll probably regain some enjoyment out of this. Fans of the manga should probably give it a pass, though.

Director Michael Caton-Jones has created a well-behaved dramatic and suspense filled film with outstanding actors and a riveting, masterful position. Bruce Willis plays the lead role as the “Jackal” a frigid and calculating assassin. Sidney Poitier is superbly cast as the FBI Deputy Director. Richard Gere plays Declan Mulqueen, an IRA. terrorist, imprisoned in the USA. Diane Venora is cast as the Russian Interpol agent, Valentina Kostova. Scenes were filmed in many locations in Europe, primarily Helsinki, Finland which also served to portray Moscow, and London, England; Montreal, Canada; Chicago, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Essentially, the FBI and Russian agents managed to extinguish a Chechnyan mobster. Unfortunately, his brother is out for revenge and hires the Jackal to slay a top US official … Initially, they acquire the target is the Director of the FBI. Bruce Willis is chilling and true in his role as the Jackal. He engages in multiple disguises and identities throughout the film to enact his goals. He manages to collect a computer guided high tech weapon built and smuggled into the United States undetected. He gains entry into the US via a power boat over the Lakes from Canada to Lake Michigan and there he joins a boat rush in Chicago by blending in. The FBI gets permission to spring Declan Mulqueen out of jail … in order to salvage his benefit to identify and apprehend the Jackal. He makes a deal to gain his freedom, then joins in the toddle to accumulate the Jackal.
It turns out the Jackal has another abolish in mind along with accomplishing the task for which he was hired. The Jackal has an archaic salvage to determine with Isabella, a woman from his past who can identify him. She survived his attempt to raze her. She was a Spanish terrorist of Basque origins who worked with Declan Mulqueen many years ago. They had been lovers and she was pregnant with his child when the Jackal shot her … It seems Declan Mulqueen also has a derive to determine with the Jackal. While the situation is well developed, the film drags on a bit, as distinguished of the film involves chasing the Jackal while he deviously manages to avoid detection, When he gets closer to his target and the deadline … the film picks up bustle and the account becomes more interesting and complex. The ending is inspiring and satisfying. Some feel the film made in 1973, “Day of the Jackal” upon which this film is based, is beneficial. Never having seen the mature, I can only mediate this film. Overall, this could have been a *more* tantalizing film given the action, drama, and well layed out location but too worthy time is wasted in the mountainous plug which makes one feel the film is mighty longer than it should be. $70 million to whack out the head of the FBI? The Russian gangsters in this clinker obviously don’t shop around for hired killers. As if hearing Gere’s Irish accent isn’t unpleasant enough, we must believe two hours of Bruce Willis’ deadpan wig-changing killer. Argh! And why won’t a rifle, a bomb, poison, something a BIT simpler be employed as the execute weapon? What’s with that gun? This film is ridiculous, period.

I absolutely admire this film, a touching legend of the relationship between an terrified but passionate postal carrier and the Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda. As Neruda and his poetry advise the mailman in the ways of cherish, a courtship blossoms that has all the humor and bittersweet missteps of the valid thing. Director Radford uses a light touch to illuminate the new relationship between the exiled poet and an ordinary man. Massimo Troisi as Mario (the postman) turns in a ravishing performance that should not be missed; his characterization of a clueless man desperately in worship with both words and a woman cannot be forgotten. Likewise, Philippe Noiret as Neruda provides a memorable portrait of a man who can forget the power of his words.
I can’t benefit comparing “Il Postino” to “Life is Elegant”, also an Italian film that relies on initial humor to situation up the injure found in the human heart. “Il Postino” is more subtle, however, and more realistic. Level-headed, those who enjoyed “Life is Sparkling” should also like “Il Postino.”
I recommend this film highly. You don’t need to know anything about Neruda to luxuriate in it; all you need to be is human.
Il Postino is a astounding and heartwarming adaptation of Antonio Skarmenta’s recent, El cartero de Neruda, which is not likely to disappoint audiences who are prepared to explore a foreign film with sub-titles. The movie is certainly not a tear-jerker, but any viewer will fetch themselves becoming emotionally attached to its characters and highly affected by the fate which befalls them.

The film, directed by Michael Radford, is the tale of a humble Italian postman who is greatly changed by the illustrious Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda for whom he works for in a cramped Italian village. As the audience, we scrutinize their acqaintanceship as it changes and eventually develops into a good and unforgettable friendship. Without a doubt, some audiences will catch Il Postino unimaginative because of the simple status and the lack of sex and violence. Nevertheless, it is an an emotional and grand movie that I highly recommend because of its strong character portrayal. In my notion, Il Postino is truly successful because of its improbable acting by Massimo Troisi, who accurately portrays the innocent postman as well as Philippe Noiret, who is a very endearing and fabulous Pablo Neruda.
In addition to the acting, the Italian landscape is a breathtaking and integral section of Il Postino. Radford effectively incorporates the elegant mountains and seascape as the story’s background. It is a refreshing decision by Radford which only adds to the poetry which Noiret recites periodically throughout the film.
I am certainly the type of person who prefers the book to the movie, but in this particular case, I feel that the movie surpasses the Skarmenta’s modern by far. I recommend this movie to anyone who is tired of movies with gratuitous sex and violence as well as hackneyed forumlas. The sub-titles are by no means a hinderance to the film and I guarentee by its ruin that you will be fascinated by the Italian language.

Director Howard Hawks and John Wayne would essentially remake the same fable three times: first as RIO BRAVO in 1959, then as EL DORADO in 1967, and finally as RIO LOBO in 1970. Caught between the popularity of the first and the snide failure of the third, EL DORADO is something of a neglected film–but for my money, it is easily the best of the three.
The tale is the stuff that Western myths are made of. Aging gun-slinger John Wayne is offered a job as hired gun in a range war, but he discovers that acceptance of the job would space him on the tainted side of the law–which in this case is primitive friend and exiguous town sheriff Robert Mitchum, who has made himself a laughing stock by drinking his intention to the bottom of every bottle he can collect. Wayne accordingly drifts into town, whips Mitchum into shape, and with the assistance of crotchety deputy Arthur Hunnicutt and youngster James Caan they status about cleaning up the town.
Although EL DORADO has a behind tone, but it never feels in the least slow–largely due to an unexpectedly witty script that crackles with memorable dialogue (at one point when Mitchum asks Wayne what he’s looking at, Wayne responds “A tin star with a drunk pinned to it”) and unexpected situations (such as Caan’s sad procedure with a shotgun.) The entire cast handles both humor and old-west action with equal skill, and both Wayne and Mitchum offer some the best work of their impressive careers here; James Caan (in his first major success), Arthur Hunnicutt, Charlene Holt, and Michele Carey are equally memorable.

There are a expansive many westerns more critically acclaimed than EL DORADO–RED RIVER, THE SEARCHERS, and STAGE COACH to name but a few. And I be pleased them. But EL DORADO is like meeting an aged friend whose company you always delight in. Strongly recommended.
I’m 53 years dilapidated and have loved John Wayne since first seeing him at the movies as “Hondo” as a boy. I loved Rio Bravo, but have to give the edge to this remake. As safe as the unique was, El Dorado is more palatable and convincing to me. The Duke is as excellent as he ever was in his usual role as the hired gun with a conscience whose reputation alone strikes fright into the hearts of the unpleasant guys. Few western actresses could match the young Angie Dickinson in Rio Bravo, but the male supporting cast is better in El Dorado. Mitchum is respectable, young James Caan adds charm and humor and Arthur Hunnicutt nearly steals the point to in the Walter Brennan role as Mitchum’s sincere, but crusty deputy, Bull. For my money, Hunnicutt is one of the big homespun character actors of all time and this is certainly one of his very best performances. Most don’t know his name like they do the large Walter Brennan’s but he’s fair as helpful or better. A then noname Ed Asner and Christopher George (TV’s The Rat Patrol) are splendid as the main abominable guys. George is actually somewhat likeable as a man willing to sell his gun to the most odious of crooks, but calm possessed of a sense of magnificent play. Jim Davis (Jock Ewing of TV’s Dallas) plays one of Asner’s henchmen. This is impartial a large cast telling a gigantic passe west sage.
A current biography of director Howard Hawks points out that Hawks badly needed a hit slow in his career when El Dorado was achieve together. His grief is evident. Even the opening credits are great–a series of attractive western paintings by Olaf Wieghorst, who also appears as the gunsmith, “The Swede.” The title song by George Alexander is memorable as well.
BTW, the poem Caan keeps quoting, which serves as the foundation for the title song, was Edgar Alan Poe’s last poem–”El Dorado”, of course. The movie was filmed impartial west of Tucson, AZ in what is today Mature Tucson–a must tour for anyone eager in westerns. Westerns are aloof filmed there. Movies filmed there include Rio Bravo, El Dorado, McClintock, and Rio Lobo by Wayne, as well as many others such as Joe Kidd, Tombstone and even The Three Amigos.

It is incomprehensible to me why this movie has not yet made it to DVD. I mediate it is easily Visconti’s greatest work, and one of the masterpieces of Italian film from a mammoth era in general; and it is also a flawless adaptation of one of the finest Italian novels of the twentieth century. The film is a cessation explore of a well-behaved Sicilian family, and especially of its Prince (played by Burt Lancaster in what I judge is also his best role), as they interact with the modern middle-class parvenus of revolutionary Italy. The cinematic values of the film itself are resplendent, from the sizable panoramas of the desolate Sicilian countryside, to the stifling intimacy of the final ball (which lasts nearly an hour on film without once being dreary) . What is most fabulous is the depth of the film. Even diminutive gestures are carefully observed and occupy the nuances of an aristocracy in decline. I loved “Death in Venice” as well, but this film should justly be considered Visconti’s most tightly controlled and haunting.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not as well read as I’d like to be…I was never forced to read Sir Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe in school, so I really can’t negate you how mighty of what was in the book actually made it into the 1952 film, but I suspect a top-notch deal probably got lost in the translation given that the unique current seems exceptionally long (depending on the publisher, it ranges anywhere between 500 to 700 pages) . Despite what may have been left out (probably a lot regarding the development of the characters), I unexcited contemplate Ivanhoe (1952) is a darn obedient film obliging of anyone’s time. Directed by Richard Thorpe (The Thin Man Goes Home), the film stars Robert `The Man With the Perfect Profile’ Taylor (Knights of the Round Table), Joan Fontaine (Rebecca, Suspicion), and Elizabeth `I’ve been married eight times’ Taylor (National Velvet) . Also appearing is George Sanders (A Shot in the Dismal), Emlyn Williams (They Drive by Night), Robert Douglas (The Desert Rats), Felix Aylmer (Knights of the Round Table), and Guy Rolfe (Snow White and the Three Stooges, Mr. Sardonicus) as the dastardly Prince John.

After returning from the Crusades (the general consensus was that he croaked), the Saxon knight Wilfred of Ivanhoe (Taylor) finds the kingdom in a region of disrepair. The Normans, lead by the opportunistic Prince John (Rolfe), have assumed control of Mother England after the disappearance of King Richard (he actually got waylaid returning from The Crusades, and is now being held for ransom in Austria, which Prince John knows, but has decided not to pay up, keeping the whole affair on the QT) . Ivanhoe thus begins his quest, in Richard’s name, to capture the Norman villainy from the throne by arresting the novel power structure, and wheelin’ and a dealin’ to advance up with the funds to free Richard, through the benefit of Isaac of York (Aylmer) and his elegant daughter Rebecca (Ms. Taylor), who are both of the Jewish persuasion, and looked down upon equally by the Saxons and the Normans (Isaac’s incentive is a guarantee from Wilfred on behalf of Richard that Isaac’s persecuted peoples will be granted a home in England once Richard has returned…seems like a haughty promise on Wilfred’s fragment) . Oh yeah, Ivanhoe must also mend fences with his father, who disowned him after a contrast of concept with regards to The Crusades, renew his relationship with his father’s ward, the fair Lady Rowena (Fontaine), and enlist the help of Locksley (Robin Hood) and his merry men. Donning the garb of the Dismal Knight, Wilfred challenges the sinister Norman monarchy of Prince John and his lackeys Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert (Sanders) and Sir Hugh De Bracy (Douglas), the victor gaining a kingdom, the loser subject to death.
I really liked this film, and I understanding it was too terrible it wasn’t made a year or two later than it was (the colossal scale usage of Cinemascope was unbiased around the corner), as it would have benefited greatly with a panoramic showing, especially the enormous battle scenes. Regardless, some may say they fair don’t form them like this anymore, and I would tend to agree…oh, they (they being the new Hollywood system) try, with novel releases of Troy (did anyone else judge Troy was a bit on the homoerotic side? ) and Alexander, but too often those films score swept up with the immense visuals, forgoing the significant aspect of reliable acting and a decent anecdote. Ivanhoe presents both, and in spades. I did feel some of the characters were a bit light (especially that of Elizabeth Taylor’s Rebecca), but given the berth of the unusual material, some things obviously had to be minimized or discarded altogether. That being said, I notion the memoir fairly intricate, featuring a honorable many facets and favorable acting that kept me involved. Robert Taylor did well and oozes the chivalry one would question from the once nobleman apt to his liege. I especially liked the characters of Prince John, played by Guy Rolfe and Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert, played by George Sanders…they were both equally dismal types that could easily elicit sneers from the audience anytime they appeared on veil (actually, later on, Sanders’ character did seem to believe a smattering of what one might call a redemptive quality, but his motives were all screwy, so we didn’t feel terrible when he met the ending he did) . Despite the film being thick with account, it doesn’t lack in the action department. I could actually feel the competitors being shanked off their horses during the jousting scenes, the castle siege advance the extinguish was done extremely well, as was the fierce, discontinuance quarters battle between Wilfred and Sir Brian. And if you’re one for the ladies, Ms. Fontaine and Ms. Taylor (who seemed a bit lackluster in her performance, but then a lackluster Elizabeth Taylor performance is calm better than most) provide plenty of beauty, along with their other talents (witness for the scene where Ms. Taylor’s character is on trial…she possessed an unparalleled level of hotness in that stout length white dress) . This is one of those films that clicks on all cylinders, as all the elements (the rich and vibrant color cinematography, proper musical salvage, acting, costumes, etc.) work together well to accomplish a wonderfully enthralling waste result.

The pudgy hide describe (1.33:1) looks expansive on this DVD, and the audio comes through clearly. Special features include the Oscar winning Tom and Jerry short `The Two Musketeers’ (I always liked that one, although I always idea it kinda creepy the blueprint it ended, with the inferred beheading of one of the main characters…), along with a Swashbuckler movie trailer gallery that includes one for this film, Knights of the Round Table (1953), and one for a film called Scaramouche (1952) . Warner Home Video is getting a shrimp better with its’ inclusion of extras, but smooth has a long blueprint to go.

This movie is what we exhaust to call “a righteous one from Hollywood”.
It was filmed in 1952 in shapely Technicolor when Hollywood was launching one hit after other, “Ivanhoe” passed with quite pleasant marks.
I was a kid when it was released and saw it with undivided attention as most of my age-mates and parents.
I recently viewed the VHS version again and I am unexcited fond of this film. Is it a titanic movie? No. Is it a generous movie? It certainly is and fully involving!
Based on Sir Walter Scott well known modern is a rich mixture of history, romance and drama.
It narrates the adventures of Wilfred of Ivanhoe, a knight of Saxon origins, who has gone into the Crusades against his father’s will.
He returned to England to raise funds in order to rescue his imprisoned King, Richard Lionhearted.
He founds the kingdom ruled by John Lackland, Richard’s junior brother, who by no means will cooperate and more so will try to terminate his intents.
From here on adventures follow with jousts, castle’s sieges, rescue of the ancient, difficult romances, out-laws helping the knight, noxious knights trying to end our hero but to no avail.
You name it you have it!
It was directed by Richard Thorpe, an artisan with 186 films in his yarn. He has started directing movies in the tranquil period. He was very versatile, directed Johnny Weissmuller in four Tarzan’s chapters.
Between 1951 till 1953 he delivered at least four successful movies: “The Expansive Caruso” (1951), “The Prisoner of Zenda” (1952), “Ivanhoe” (1952) and “The Knights of the Round Table” (1953) . He retired in 1967.
The Taylors get paramount. Robert gives the viewers one of his classic hero’s portraits with skill and wit. Elizabeth is very young and titillating woman, she also delivers a very excellent acting part. Even if she was never very fond of this film, WE were, and it is known: the public rules.
George Sanders as the dismal Bois-Guilbert is very convincing. Joan Fontaine as Lady Rowena is a tiny extinct.
A final reference for musical accept authored by Budapest born Miklos Rozsa: underline forcefully the movie pictures.
If you like romance and adventure, do not miss this film!

We are pacing him on these, to salvage more gift bang-for-the-buck. He loves the first movie, and as you can imagine we’ve seen it bunches of times. For an adult, it’s kinda thin on set, but there is one. For a itsy-bitsy boy that wants to spy cars go snappily, and likes a good-guy/bad-guy fable, it’s the bomb!
My son (now 7) loves these movies. We could only acquire the first 2 at our movie store so we got this for him for Christmas and I can’t affirm you how many times he’s watched them. We can’t wait for the next one because of the surprise at the raze of movie #4. Splendid, consistent site throughtout that’s not hard to follow. Somehow these drivers morphed into muscle-bound somewhat unrealistic looking people from the initial movie — World Hasten. Not clear what the purpose unhurried that is . . . doesn’t do it poor but honest different if you quiz them to eye like they did in World Rush. A few of these win into a exiguous more putrid competition, but again nothing really terrible. Overall fun movies for kids that like Hot Wheels cars! And even palatable for the grownups as well.

I was disappointed by this poorly made documentary. It consists mainly of talking heads that tend to order themselves. There is very cramped footage of Leonard Cohen and the definite filler bits are irritating. ‘I’m Your Man’ and ‘Ladies and Gentleman’ are more worthwhile purchases.
Maybe too remarkable information for some, but I found it an superb background on a song-writer poet I mighty treasure.
